Recommends: Sperry Suede Unlined Boat Shoes

Boat shoes fluctuate in popularity as the years go on. They must be at a low point in popularity right now, because Sperry’s retail price is under $100, and I just got a pair in suede for $49. The last time I wanted to get a pair, around 2 years ago, I couldn’t find any for less than $100.

That suede pair arrived and I am smitten all over again. I’d stopped wearing boat shoes for a while due to some foot pain issues I’ve been dealing with for a couple years; but wanted to give them a try again because there are no shoes as versatile as boat shoes.

My favorite style is the canoe moccasin single-eyelet style—I owned and wore a pair from Sperry in the mid-2010s all over the world, literally, until they fell apart. I replaced them with a pair of chromexcel Oak Street Bootmakers moccasins, but while the quality of those was significantly better than the Sperry’s, they exacerbated that pain, so I got rid of them.

This new butter-soft suede pair wear supremely lightly. The footbed inside is also suede, so wearing them sockless is comfortable.

Right now until May 16, use the code SAVEMORE to get them for an extra 30% off, so around $50.

Let the summer of Sperry’s commence!

  1. I bought a pair of Sperrys (or is it Sperries?) last year to freshen up my feet. Clarks desert boots have been my casual shoe of choice for a long time; I needed something new, so I got a smooth leather pair of boat shoes. Brown. I’ve put Oxblood polish on them just to be different.

    1. Haha, sounds great. I used to wear desert boots all the time as well. I love the Astorflex Driftflex for that, though I wish they had a narrower heel.
The Sperry’s are hard to beat for the price!
