Two More Outfit Ideas for Spring 2022 [Featuring Two Great SuitSupply Jackets]

I caught a couple new sportcoats SuitSupply added and liked them so much I wanted to create a couple more outfit grids with ideas of how I’d wear them, as I’d done recently.

I also just took advantage of the British Pound’s favorable exchange rate ($1.22 or so), and bought a pair of snuff suede Crockett & Jones penny loafers—the Sydney, on a leather sole. I haven’t received them yet, but I foresee them being my new go-to pair of shoes if they fit well. (Sadly, the polo suede Meermin penny loafers I got last summer ended up becoming painful to wear; something I didn’t realize until weeks after purchase and wear). I find snuff suede penny loafers to be one of the most versatile shoes, ever. My last pair, made by Allen Edmonds, have stretched so much they no longer fit; they gave me a good 6 or 7 years of continuous use.

Jacket: SuitSupply brown linen/silk/wool houndstooth jacket

Shirt: Spier & Mackay blue micro-houndstooth linen shirt

Trousers: Spier & Mackay medium blue cotton-linen trousers

Shoes: Crockett & Jones Sydney snuff suede loafer (this shop has them for roughly $150 less than anywhere else with the current exchange rate, such as at Todd Snyder)

The shirt and jacket are both houndstooth, but the rule about pattern mixing is that they should have a great disparity in size; the micro-houndstooth will look just find with the larger-scale houndstooth of the jacket.

Shirt: Spier & Mackay green wide-strip Italian spread collar shirt

Trousers: Spier & Mackay sage cotton-linen trousers

I’ve been really keen on green shirts worn with navy this spring, though I haven’t bought one yet that I’ve ended up liking well enough to keep.

I have my running list of curated picks from this spring’s collection at Spier & Mackay that I’d…

  1. Would be interim hearing how your new Crocket and Jones shoes compare with the Meermin, Carmina, and Spief variants you reviewed last year.

    1. Well…. I sent them back. I am beginning to think loafers aren’t meant for me anymore. I spent a couple days trying them on at various times of the day and determined they didn’t feel good in the heel, so they’d hurt after a day’s wear. Currently experimenting with pedag insoles for my Meermin’s…

  2. I’d love to see more on the houndstooth. I always struggle with what to pair with a houndstooth blazer. Blue chinos or jeans have been my go to. But after that I come up short. Would love to see some other combinations.
