What’s Exciting Me at Spier & Mackay This Spring/Summer

We’re deep into the release schedule for spring/summer, folks, and Spier & Mackay has been steadily trickling out products like they’re a water fountain. Lots to check out, with a big range of things—from suits to hoodies—but below you can find my picks.

Think of the links below not only as things I personally would buy, but also things that are similar to things I already own and am wearing a lot.

I’ll organize them according to category.

Suits

I’ve been wearing my cotton twill Drake’s suit a lot (though admittedly not as a suit 98% of the time). Here are two, one with a more normal styling and the other in a fancier fabric made in their Neapolitan cut:

I’ve recently recommended Spier’s core suit to several people lately. It’s a great product for the price. If you need a go-to suit and can’t spend a ton, buy this suit (I’d recommend going with navy):

If you’re into double breasted style, this brighter navy DB suit would be great:

Below are three Neapolitan-cut suits in fancier fabrics that I think would be great. The sand wool/silk/linen one reminds me of a color Eidos would run.

Sportcoats/Blazers

I never get excited about really out-there #menswear jackets like some folks do. There’s almost always a red jacket in someone’s collection each season, and they never appeal to me. However, this di Pray rust check, I’m really feeling. I was inspired by an Instagram post from my friend Justin in Beijing from last summer, which I put into a digital flat lay using this jacket (which looks very similar). Find that at the bottom with links to each item in the fit.

Here’s a wool-linen brown hopsack in their normal jacket cut, which reminds me a bit of the famous “summer tweed” from a few years ago:

Sweaters & Polos

Sweaters and summer is a silly combination of words as it warms up, but depending on your lifestyle and where you live, a lightweight sweater made from cotton, linen or a blend thereof might make sense in the evenings in the early spring or as we get into fall later this year.

This linen-forward blend navy crewneck sounds just about perfect:

They also are carrying one in a cotton-silk blend, which holds appeal as well. Choose whichever you like better (my choice in color is, of course, navy)

Wear this breton under a navy blazer:

Navy long-sleeve polo with a spread shirt collar is impossible to beat. Wear it under a navy blazer with white jeans and suede loafers. Boom, easy dressy casual outfit:

Trousers

My default, go-to summer tailored trouser. This season, the mix of linen and cotton is slightly different—a bit more linen, a bit less cotton. I’m thinking that’ll be a good change for the additional texture it should bring.

Cream is my favorite, and navy is a second-favorite.

The go-to dressier summer trouser, mid-gray high-twist:

Swim trunks

This deserves its own header because once you try swim trunks that have a zipper, it’s impossible to go back. Famously you can buy some from Orlebar Brown for $200+ but ain’t nobody got money for that (except the 1%). So it’s great to see Spier offering these. Rick tells me these are very stretchy. I’ll likely size up because I don’t like fitted shorts and the measurements seem pretty slim; but that extra stretch may help them be more comfortable, too.

Outerwear

A Belt

On the one hand, braided belts are peak cringe 90s to me (I owned at least one when I was a little boy). On the other hand, there’s something really cool about wearing one that’s too long and letting it hang loose.

Those are my picks as of now (April 5). What are you looking at. Anything exciting, tickling your fancy? Let me know!
