To Buy: A Blazer Made From Minnis Mock Leno Wool

This summer I’ve been wearing a Cavour blazer made from Minnis’ Mock Leno almost nonstop.

The fabric is having a moment this summer amongst a few of my favorite makers. I thought I’d highlight them, though while some have already gone on sale and/or sold through a size run, others are still available.

Yesterday No Man Walks Alone launched their capsule tailoring collection. Included in that is their own Sartoria Carrara blazer made from Mock Leno. I reviewed their line of tailoring in 2020, which you can read here.

Cavour’s jacket is almost entirely sold through at this point, sadly, but if you happen to wear the size that’s available, I like their cut quite a bit. As I mentioned I’ve been wearing it almost nonstop; their cut in this fabric looks right at home dressed up with a pale blue shirt, brown grenadine tie, mid-gray trousers and dark brown shoes, or dressed down with a navy polo shirt, off-white jeans and suede chukkas. Read my review of Cavour here.

Natalino has a pair of navy blazers in Mock Leno this season. The single breasted blazer is, alas, mostly sold through. But the double breasted jacket is still available in every size. Read my review of Natalino here.

Finally I noticed while sleuthing that the French brand Husbands—which has been making a name for itself these past several years—has a Mock Leno blazer as well. Husbands’ overall vibe is pretty classic, though they do tend to strongly evoke the 1970s with things like flared-leg trousers or even the use of certain patterns. Their default blazer cut, in which the Mock Leno jacket is made, looks very classic however.

One last thing: As far as I can tell, there are two shades of navy that most use when using Minnis’ Mock Leno: one darker, one lighter. (There are two others in a different fabric collection, though: 1, 2). Based on photographs, it looks like the No Man Walks Alone jacket is made from the lighter shade, while the rest are the darker.

The Casual Alternative to the Navy Blazer

A friend of mine recently invited us for an informal gathering to celebrate his birthday at the local Mad Tree brewery in Cincinnati. Who's wearing a navy blazer to a brewery for a b-day celebration? A tailored blazer, no matter how soft the shoulder, no matter the sprezzy open patch pocket configuration, feels wrong for something like that. So what's a (rakish) man to do?
