Natalino—My Favorite Affordable Neapolitan Tailoring Company—Is Now Offering Long Sizes and An Improved Fit

The lower-middle range of the tailoring landscape is rife with really great companies these days. It’s a great time to be someone who likes to wear great-looking tailored clothes if you can’t necessarily afford the full-canvas real deal (whether from staunch old-line brands like Canali or Caruso, or from upstarts like Anglo-Italian or Ring Jacket).

Among them all, though, Natalino stands apart.

Not only is the tailoring made in Naples—not China, not India—but the styling is authentically Neapolitan. Wide straight lapels, a 3-roll-2 closure, soft construction. To meet the price point, it’s half-canvas—meaning the canvas that gives the fabric body in the front of the jacket is attached by sewing only from the buttoning point upward (while below the buttoning point is either fused or just un-structured entirely; I’m not 100% sure which describes Natalino best).

Anyway, this post is to announce that they’re now offering tailoring in Long sizes—a boon for my tall friends who I’ve wanted to recommend their product to in the past. But they’re also boasting a few updates to the silhouette that should improve it. First, the notch is a little lower, making it a bit more classic. Second, the sleeve has been widened a bit to be a bit more comfortable. Add these changes to the fact that they switched to a better factory with better quality control a year ago (without a change in pricing), and Natalino is more compelling than ever.

Of course they offer more than just tailored jackets. The entire vibe of Natalino is so perfectly louche; so perfectly “I woke up like this.” I love it. Please go buy all his stuff.

And read my review of Natalino to read an interview with its founder Nathan and see more of my thoughts.

The Fall Drops From Spier & Mackay I’m Here For

It's November now, folks, and while I'm still paying to have the A/C in my car fixed because we all know the temperature will get above 65° on many occasions all winter long, that means it's time to wear the cold-weather clothes while the wearing is good. So far I've felt Spier & Mackay has been…

  1. I wore their navy merino hopsack three times in the past week – it’s one of my favorites.
How do you like the slightly lower lapel gorge on the AW23 collection?

    1. I think a lower gorge will make it a bit more classic. That said I’ll want to see it on me to decide what I like best. The old gorge didn’t strike me as so-high that it was bad

  2. What constitutes a “tall” for sizing? I’m 6’4″ and I often find I can fit a regular just fine, including Natalino; tall sometimes feels like it’s way down my hip on jackets.

    1. Interesting. I haven’t seen the size chart yet so I’m not entirely sure but I’m guessing the L will add 2cm in length, which is pretty standard, meaning it would be around 31 inches long (or about 78cm) on a size 40/50.
It’s all about proportions which can be highly personal, so if an R fits you fine it could be just a matter of how your legs and torso are proportional to each other.
There’s also the matter of how we train our eyes to what we think looks best. Over time if you wore longer jackets you might come to prefer it, depending on other factors. I’m pretty squarely an R length at 6’0″, and years ago bought a 42L Polo Ralph Lauren navy blazer. It was like 31.5 inches long—a full inch longer than I think is the platonic ideal on my frame—and because of how it was proportioned, I loved it. 3. Hi Mitchell, yeah, I’ve finally bought a Natalino sportcoat and it arrived really quickly, like the fastest I’ve ever ordered something from the British Isles. I was rather stunned. I bought a coat off of the end of their Spring/Summer closeout sale and I was surprised to still find one in my size. It looked like they had a lot of coats in my size. I haven’t had it altered yet, but I’m looking forward to it. It looks great, but it’s obviously a little rumpled from the trip and probably needs a steam.

  4. I just tried to but it seems that sizing is spotty. Found a jacket I want but the trousers are only avail in the smallest size. Other jackets were also not in my size. I’ll keep trying.

  5. Any idea when their AW ’23 stuff will drop? It looks like almost all the sport coats are holdovers from the summer.

    1. Honestly I pre-wrote this post last week with the expectation he’d have put up the new stuff by now. So your guess is as good as mine lol

  6. I have heard their jackets can be on the short side for taller people so the fact they are selling and L size from this year on is good news. However, I am smitten with a particular suit that is a holdover from S/S and so I’m wondering if at 1m 86cm their 54 jacket will be too short for me… Any ideas?
