Last Week’s Daily Fits—March 18-22

I’ve wanted to publish “what I wore” posts more frequently, but also don’t want to inundate you with them every day. Thus I’ve decided to get daily (or near-daily) photos to post on social media (Instagram, Tumblr), and at the end of the week, post them here all together with a little commentary about each fit and some links to similar products.

I didn’t get a photo every day this week, but did Tuesday through Friday.

Tuesday, March 19

I took a jump on Spring a day early and wore my favorite Eidos shirt (seriously) in a super airy Airtex weave with the glorious Marcus collar, but paired it with my cashmere-blend herringbone faux-donegal blazer. One nice thing about most of the fabrics Antonio at Eidos designed with is rarely were they so heavy that they are only wearable in super cold weather. My go-to off-white denim from J.Crew is still going strong 5 years on, and my sand suede tassel loafers (the Acheson by Allen Edmonds, by way of Club Monaco who called them the “South Beach”).

Shirt:

Leno fabric shirts at Kamakura. It’s a similar style of open weave cotton.

Proper Cloth carries Airtex fabrics, too, though currently only in navy. The Soft Roma Cutaway collar is very, very similar in shape and size to the Marcus collar; use my referral link here for $20 off your first order.

Jacket: Navy textured blazer from SuitSupply (check out this post for several navy blazer options)

Pocket square: Ted Baker Square (not super similar colors but I like the pattern here)

Jeans:

Garment dyed light “bone” five pockets pants from Brooks Brothers Red Fleece

Levi’s white 501’s (you can always taper them)

I wanted to go sockless with loafers (I try not to wear socks unless I have to) and jeans. I was still in the blue-stripe shirt mood, so I wore my favorite Proper Cloth shirt—a linen-cotton blend wide blue-white stripe. I hadn’t worn my emerald green Eidos jacket in a while so I threw that on too.

The cotton-linen shirt rule continued. This time with my Oxford-weave cotton-linen shirt from Proper Cloth. I highly recommend the fabric for its texture and breathability, but versatility in dressing up with a tie. With my glorious brown tweed “Lorenzo” cut jacket from Eidos (a one-season jacket cut from 2014 that apes the sweeping curves of Florentine tailors’ jacket lines, namely, Liverano). I wore it with my favorite jeans ever, from Rugby Ralph Lauren (RIP), Meermin snuff suede chukkas and the matching belt.

I eschewed a sport coat Friday (which I usually don’t do), mostly because I knew I’d be helping clean up the house after finishing up work to prepare for the Sabbath. I wore my wide-stripe OCBD from Proper Cloth, which I bought thinking I’d wear it with jackets, but have discovered it looks better on its own. Pro tip: check out my post on how to make your Proper Cloth purchase as best as it can be.

Another day in the mid-wash denim I have. I’m looking to update those with a higher-rise, more straight silhouette (basically the Rugby jeans I have but mid-wash) as well as in a light wash, but for no more than $150. The key for me in denim fit is the knee. If it’s too wide, it can make a pair of otherwise fine slim-straight jeans look chunky; too narrow and of course they’re uncomfortable. The Rugby jeans I have fit perfectly. I’m intrigued by Lost Monarch’s $150 “dress denim” jeans; from measurements, Unbranded’s tapered fit might work (though their return policy is abysmal); Naked and Famous’ Weird Guy might be great and I intend to try them out soon; and topping out the price list, 3Sixteen’s SL-100X appears to have identical measurements as far as I can tell.

I put together a pretty comprehensive couple of Venn diagrams to categorize the better Oxford Cloth Button Down…
