Introducing “The Menswear Musings Beginner’s Guide to Building a Tailored Wardrobe”

For the past year, I’ve had a mind to make a beginner’s guide, something that would put in one place my essential thoughts and some practical beginner level stuff for a guy who’s just starting out learning about menswear and style. The guy I thought of when writing it is me 10 years ago: I loved tailored clothing for its inherent aesthetic beauty as well as for how it flatters a person and can make him feel good; I was learning from posts and pictures on Styleforum; but if someone could have handed me a guide with some of the basics all in one spot, that would have been immensely helpful and saved me lots of time.

That’s what this guide aims to do. It aims to be a resource for someone in a similar position—who sees cool-looking guys on Instagram or Reddit or Styleforum, but is still in the process of learning the ins and outs of menswear—and help him jumpstart his discovery journey, with an emphasis on helping him discover his own style.

Since I’ve been on that journey myself, I know what the thrill of popping tags on a beautiful jacket at a low price can feel like—as well as the disappointment of realizing that purchase was a horrible mistake. I also know how easy it is to become so enamored of a certain type of clothing style that it’s hard to dress any other way even when you’re clearly over dressed. My guide gives tips for how to think about and avoid both scenarios.

And it’s all heavily illustrated using images from my own wardrobe, past and present—the good, the bad, and the ugly.

So check it out here. I’ve laid it out in both a mobile size and larger size for iPads or PCs. One purchase gets you access to both sizes, with basically no limit on re-downloading it for yourself if you lose the original file.

Thanks for your support!
