I’ve been happy to see a steady stream of great lookbooks being released from my favorite brands. You’ve maybe seen them, too, and if so please forgive me for reposting them over the next several days.

Cavour’s lookbook for fall/winter 2023 is the first I want to draw attention to.

Cavour appeals to me as a brand namely because they so strongly channel the Italian ethos (right down to the name), even though they’re based in Scandinavia. As I wrote in my original review:

In a way it almost makes sense that it takes an outside retailer—someone from outside Naples or Italy itself—to bring something like this to market. Italians themselves seem to feel the need to take their product and adjust it in certain ways to appeal to the native expectations of buyers in other parts of the world. But for people outside Italy, we look there and see something special that we want in on. We don’t want it filtered through our own country’s mainstream idea of style. Cavour’s house label tailored jackets feel like that special Italian sauce, authentic just like the locals would want it.

That said, there’s still plenty of Scandinavian DNA in Cavour’s offerings. This new lookbook very much showcases the clean, tidy aesthetic you’d expect from an Oslo-based store. The outfits are elegant, using tonal combinations with knitwear featuring heavily under tailoring; the lighting is simple; the set is tidy.

Go take a look at their new season’s goods (this season Cavour has completely converted to selling only house-label goods; no longer will they stock brands like Ring Jacket, Attolini or Finamore going forward).

  1. I’m sure they are a good brand. I just can’t look past those far-too-high lapel notches. It’s like the 2010s-2020s equivalent of 2000s-2010s bum-freezer short jackets and coats.
