Black Friday 2019

Last year I joked it should be called Black Fri-week. This year, some stores have been offering “Black Friday” sale pricing two weeks ahead of time. Check below for links to the shops that I am keeping an eye on—some have started BF sales early, others have not yet. Check back for additional links and updates throughout the week!

While I think the arms race to get Black Friday sales starting earlier and earlier is, on the whole, a sad commentary on our materialistic culture as well as the psychology behind sales (hint: if they know they’re going to offer it at 20% off, it’s probably priced 20% too high to begin with), if there have to be sales, might as well make them more convenient for everyone. Last year I eschewed clothing purchases for tech purchases and a video game or two. This year, I‘ve bought several things in the lead up to Black Friday that if I pick anything up it’ll be a smaller, or less expensive item or two. Anyway, enough with the commentary. Below, Black Friday sales I’m looking at plus some product picks. Mostly clothes but also some other picks.

(stay tuned for new updates as the week progresses)

I recently bought an iPad Pro to be the computer I run my blog from. I absolutely love it. With iPadOS’ improvements to core functionality and apps like Lightroom, it’s an amazing product for photo editing and blogging. Here are some iPad deals (I love my Pro but the Air was a major contender, and the regular 10.2-inch iPad is an extremely capable tablet for a great price).

iPad 10.2-inch for $250 at Target or Staplesor Walmart

$150-250 off iPad Pro models at Best Buy

My wife and I also recently sold our fantastic Canon 6D and bought Canon’s new EOS RP, which is the less expensive full-frame mirrorless camera, released in February 2019. We absolutely love the sharpness and picture quality; handling has taken some getting used to, as coming off a more professional camera, the reduction in physical buttons (plus just a different layout) has been an adjustment. But you cannot get a better price on a full-frame camera from anyone; mirrorless just makes it lightweight and small.

Some specific clothing products I personally would love to buy if I had the funds:

L.L. Bean

Wicked Good Moccasins

With their amazing customer service and product warranty, these are well worth the asking price, particularly with 20% off.

No Man Walks Alone

Kaptain Sunshine Traveler Coat sold out sadly

I absolutely love the design of this coat. The plain car coat front (as opposed to having a dressier-looking lapel) in a single breasted cut, with applied flapped patch pockets (with a little ticket pocket), all with a longer cut

Heschung Thuya

I recently decided these ugly shoes are actually pretty baller. If you’re a fan of the Wallabee (and I have recently become one after discovering they are the most comfortable shoe of all time), these are a bit more rugged yet also have a more pleasing shape. 20% off is your best time to buy them.

Polo Ralph Lauren

Double-breasted Officers Coat

Timeless and classic. $600 is a worthy price for this (after the 40% off discount)

Spier & Mackay

Outerwear

Teal barleycorn tweed polo coat

Dress trousers

Mid-gray flannel trousers

Light gray flannel trousers

Mid-blue tweed trousers

Charcoal tweed trousers
