Anglo-Italian’s Fall/Winter 2020 Lookbook

Only three years old, Anglo-Italian is evolving their clothing in slow, steady increments that feel imperceptible in the moment, yet which have added up to create a fuller and fuller picture of the vision of founders Jake Grantham and Alex Pirounis.

They’ve just released a lookbook for this season, and while they’ve done photo shoots for new product releases and seasonal collections before, this is a little more creative. It definitely creates more of a mood.

As always the AI aesthetic is on point. As I wrote in my article about them two winters ago, they live up to their namesake by making clothes with some of the Italian easiness we’re all so fond of, but mixed with a the “gravity of the English palette” (as they write). As time has gone on, I definitely feel more of that English gravity in their clothing. Barn coats, shirt jackets, raglan pea coats, faded black jeans, none of these necessarily remind me of Italian clothing, so the plaids and heavy wools they’re made up in makes it all just feel… English.

Nonetheless, the brand continues to feel contemporary, despite much of their collections not being overtly seasonal but instead just adding to their ongoing “permanent collection.” While they may not restock everything, they haven’t done any sales yet, and foregoing any major hardships moving forward, I don’t foresee them starting soon. (Even The Armoury ran a 20% promotion during COVID closures; Anglo has not done so, which is a good sign I would say).

Check out the lookbook here and of course, read my original article about them here. Also scope out my photos from Pitti 97 this past January, when I saw Jake and Alex and snapped a few photos over the course of the four days of the fair. Both men are very gracious, kind and friendly, and that held true when I saw them outside the confines of their shop (where you might expect friendliness from someone trying to make a sale).
